How to preptober for CYOA?

This year I might do another round of NaNoWriMo. It isn’t exactly convenient but then it never really is, is it? There are always other things that grab our attention and other concerns that are raised. So the question is easily raised: if not now, when?

I have to add though that the month of November is a notoriously busy one. This is exactly because it is free from things like holidays but that just means that everything else is planned in that time. Including making headway in work, just before the holiday-laden month of December.

And now it will include NaNoWriMo

October is for prepping the writing dash that is NaNoWriMo (1,667 words per day for 30 days, adding up to a solid 50,000 word ‘novel’ by the end of the month). But how does one prep for a Choose Your Own Adventure? Because that is what I will be doing. (Sign up to join the fun! Use buttons in the margins!) And so far I have two concerns:

1

My main concern is that I am not sure I will have people joining me in this adventure. If I don’t that will result in me making my own story choices and while that is fine it is also… kinda sad. I hope to avoid discouraging readers by providing a tl;dr with every blog post so you don’t have to read the whole thing in order make a choice. Also, I guess, I need to make my CYOA NaNo more widely known, somehow. My Twitter feed has very little interaction and my blog a very small following. Hm. Suggestions welcome.

2

Will I be able to keep the story going, and keep providing interesting choices for readers/fellow adventurers to make? I kinda think I do, based on how I usually write when I am pantsing – which is what I will be doing because CYOA is the ultimate pantsing! Haha!

Oh man. It is the 12th of October as I write this. I still have 19 days to (re?)consider this stuff.

Drop me a line!

  1. I’m definitely going to play! I’ve posted a link on the Edinburgh Nano group, so hopefully a few more from there, too. I’ll nudge closer to the time – if you haven’t changed your mind 😉

Agree that November is a dreadful time for it. Speaks highly of it being set up by a single bloke with few responsibilities that ‘November was the perfect quiet time’ – argh! I doubt we’ll get to move it to January, alas.
