Choices, choices pt. 2: I or she? #Preptober

Thank you for voting in my last poll! We are still in Preptober, even if we are nearing the end of our preparations. Since my NaNoWriMo will be a little bit different this year, I will be asking a few questions in advance to set things up for my Choose Your Own Adventure style writing.

Last time I asked if our (I like how it is now ‘our’ and not ‘my’ because we are in this together!) main character should be female, male or other. I had six votes – which is fair and more than I expected at this point… ha! – and they were predominantly ‘female’: 75% on twitter and 67% on the blog. Calypte (check out her lovely cooking!) told me this would probably be easier for me in an already packed-with-challenge month. She may be right. So a woman it will be!

On both accounts there was someone choosing ‘other’ for the gender/sex option but they left it unspecified so I don’t know what to do with that other than say Thanks for voting! I guess.

Okay but so it does highlight something namely that I know I got double votes, on both twitter and the blog, from the same people. This was now because the poll didn’t work at first (I hope I fixed that), and I am glad they still voted on twitter and let me know about the faulty blog poll, but I think I must ask people from now on to vote only once.

The next question, and one I usually forget to ask myself at the start of every story I write: point of view. Do I write in first person (I, me, my, mine) or third (she, her, hers)? Both can work really well but it is good to have it clear before starting to write.

I promise the next poll will be a little more interesting though. Ha!

Thank you for joining me on this adventure!

  1. Point taken re voting once 🙂 And thank you for the shout out – I cook, I review, I write LOL! 🙂

Voted for 3rd person, although I’m doubting myself now. Trying to think which will flow more naturally in a CYOA, and realised I’m more used to 2nd – “You open the door and have to choose…”. Maybe I should have gone first “I open the door, should I go…” Yeah. Oops.
